Experienced property people should help design the AI workflow

Posted on 2026-09-18

Property experience includes knowledge that rarely fits neatly into a listing form.

A broker may know which questions reveal a weak brief, which missing specification will delay a decision and when a seemingly suitable property deserves closer investigation.

Joe Sokolic, founder and CEO of Sokolic Property Group, believes experienced practitioners should have a direct role in designing AI-assisted work.

“The people who understand how property decisions actually happen need to help define what the system asks, records and flags,” he says.

For example, a generic intake form may capture area, budget and size. An experienced industrial broker may add questions about vehicle movement, loading, power and the relationship between warehouse and office space.

Those questions improve the information available to everyone who subsequently works on the requirement.

Experienced staff can also help build review criteria. What makes a shortlist useful? Which statements require verification? What should prevent a draft advertisement from being published?

Sokolic argues that this work creates a valuable opportunity for training. Junior brokers can use structured prompts and checklists informed by practical experience, then learn why the questions matter.

However, judgement must remain open to challenge. A preference developed through experience should not become an unquestioned rule, particularly when market conditions or client needs change.

“We should capture the reasoning behind a decision wherever possible,” he says. “That allows the next person to understand it, test it and improve it.”

For employers, the implication is clear: AI adoption needs operational participation alongside technical implementation.

“Technology becomes more useful when experience helps shape it. That is a leadership responsibility within the property business.”
